South Point school hopes to operate from its new campus in Mukundapur off the Bypass from April 2022.

A playground for outdoor sports and an indoor sports arena with facilities for gymnastics, badminton, basketball, volleyball and skating will be the highlights of the 6.65-acre campus — something long missed by students of the school.

The management expects the infrastructure to be ready by the end of 2021. The shifting will be done in phases.

“The groundbreaking happened in November 2018. We have given the construction company two years to complete the civil construction. It would take another 12 months for the interiors to be done. We are looking to complete the project by 2021 end,” said Krishna Damani of South Point.

The Mukundapur campus will be called Priyamvada Birla Campus of South Point and both South Point School and South Point High School, which function from different buildings in Ballygunge, will move to the new premises.

The school takes in around 850 students at two levels — age three-plus and four-plus.

Classes I to XII will be held in a single shift on the Mukundapur campus. Nursery 1 to Transition will have two shifts.

The new campus will have 300 classrooms that will seat about 50 students in each. Nursery classrooms will seat 25 students in each section since the “needs of the tiny tots are different as well as specialised”.

The shift was prompted by space constraint. “With the new campus, we will provide better infrastructure, better facilities, better space to our children,” Damani said.

The G+6 building will have multiple computer, mathematics, language, geography, psychology, fashion and robotics labs, libraries, art studios, three auditoriums and multi-activity halls.

“We deliberated at length to make our campus as complete as possible, as user-friendly as possible, as environment-friendly as possible to immerse Pointers in an atmosphere that enables them not only to

excel academically but also help shape their all-round capabilities,” Harsh Vardhan Lodha, chairman, MP Birla Group, wrote in the school magazine while unveiling the concept of the new campus.
