A gang of miscreants attacked the houses of two youths at a village, on the outskirts of Raiganj town, on Sunday night, a few hours after they had protested the highhandedness of the anti-socials who were allegedly trying to stop a cultural programme at the locality.
Sources said residents of some villages under Maraikura panchayat had arranged the cultural event in Nuripur on Sunday evening.
“While artists were performing, a group of miscreants reached the venue. They demanded that the function be stopped immediately as they had not been informed or invited. The villagers resisted their bid to disrupt the event. Feeling outnumbered, the gang members left the spot,” said Md Sariful, a resident of Tenhari village, 6km from here.
After the programme, the residents returned home. Sariful went to Raiganj police station and filed a complaint against the miscreants.
Later at night, the miscreants reached Sariful’s village. They lobbed bombs at the homes of Sariful and his neighbour Md Rakbul.
“We were sleeping at home when the bombs were lobbed at my house. The attackers also opened fire. None of us went out in fear. They left after some time, hurling abuses at us,” added Sariful.
Both Sariful and Rakbul filed separate police complaints.
The police said they were in search of the attackers.
