2 dead, 3 hurt in accidents

The three were treated at SSKM and discharged

Two men in their 20s were killed in separate accidents between Tuesday and Wednesday, police said.

Late on Tuesday, a truck moving along the Calcutta-bound ramp of Vidyasagar Setu rammed into a car before hitting two motorcycles and running over one of the riders, the police said.

Ashique Sheikh, 22, who was riding a motorcycle with Shiekh Taaz, 20, on the pillion was flung off the vehicle on impact and came under the wheels of the truck, an officer of Hastings police station said.

He was declared dead at SSKM Hospital.

His two other friends, Sheikh Suraj, 22, and Miraj Sheikh, 28, were on the other bike that had been hit by the truck.

All three were treated at SSKM and discharged.

The truck driver fled leaving behind the vehicle. The police have started a case of causing death by negligence and rash driving against him.

Early on Wednesday, a truck ran over a man riding pillion on a scooter in Burtolla, the police said.

Donald Sebastian, 28, a resident of New Pal Para in Haridevpur, was declared dead at RG Kar hospital, an officer of Burtolla police station said.

Motorists and other passers-by alerted a police patrol and cops took him to the hospital. They managed to stop the truck after the accident but the driver fled, the officer said.

The truck has been seized and the police have started a case of causing death by negligence and rash driving against the driver.
