North Bengal development minister Rabindranath Ghosh, along with officials of the Cooch Behar district administration, reached Bonchukamari in the Khagrabari panchayat near here and inaugurated the bridge over the Mora Torsha.

The 48m-long bridge has been named after Narayan Roy, a prominent folk artist in the region. It was built at an expenditure of 2.04 crore.

Later, he went to Nuruddin Matha, another locality just outside the town, to inaugurate a 36m-long bridge over the Khoraboi.

The bridge is named as Rabindra-Nazrul Setu.

“We have spent Rs 1.56 crore to construct the bridge. Around 15,000 residents will use the bridge. They had to walk past the stream so far or use boats during the monsoon,” the minister said.

Ghosh also inaugurated a four-storied building Uttara, a branch office of the north Bengal development department, next to the district magistrate’s office. The state government has spent Rs 5.56 crore on the project.
