Seventeen Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) members accused in the 2014 Khagragarh blast case were on Friday sentenced up to 10 years.

Two other women were handed six years of imprisonment by the special court. All 19 were fined Rs 20,000 each by chief judge Siddhartha Kanjilal, who said the fate of the 12 other accused would be decided after completion of trial.

All 19 accused, four of them Bangladesh nationals, had pleaded guilty before the court on Wednesday. “Since the 19 accused had pleaded guilty, the court had taken their crime leniently and sentenced them to terms up to 10 years only. Four JMB operatives from Bangladesh will be deported to their country after completion of their jail term,” said Mohamed Abdul Salim, the lawyer for the accused.

The blast, which occurred in 2014 in a flat in Burdwan’s Khagragarh, had claimed two lives and blown the lid off the JMB module in Bengal.
