The special task force of the state police seized narcotics worth around Rs 2 crore and arrested two persons in Malda in this connection on Saturday night.

Sources said an STF team acted on a tip-off and stopped a vehicle on NH12 at a crossing under Baishnabnagar police station. A search of the vehicle yielded 10kg of brown sugar (a derivative of heroin).

“Reportedly, it was to be smuggled to Nadia from Manipur,” said a source.

Those arrested were Samuel Lhunminlun of Churachandpur district in Manipur and Pradip Xavier Tirkey of Sonarpur, South 24 Parganas. The STF handed over the duo and the contraband to the police. A case under the NDPS Act was filed against them and they would be interrogated further, sources said.
