On July 8, the boy, who lives in the Jadupur area of Englishbazar, went to Bihar with Khatun. She had married the boy’s brother a year ago and wanted to visit her parents.

When she reached Katihar, she sent a video to her husband and her in-laws, showing the boy being assaulted. Also, Khatun demanded that the family pay her 2 lakh to get the child back.

Pinki Bibi, the boy’s mother, filed a complaint with the police.

Based on the complaint, the police reached Dhantala, a village in the Katihar district of Bihar.

“We planned a quick rescue operation and a team was sent to Katihar. They conducted a raid and successfully rescued the boy. Jahira Khatun has been arrested,” said Pradeep Kumar Yadav, the superintendent of police of Malda.

The police said a probe was on and they would find out the motive behind the kidnap.

“The boy is in sound health. He has been handed over to the family. We will interrogate the woman,” said an officer.
