The Trinamul leadership in Cooch Behar on Tuesday sent letters written by 2.26 lakh cardholders of the Centre's 100 days’ job scheme from the district to the Calcutta office of party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
“Our national general secretary will take these letters to Delhi. These job card holders have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union minister of panchayati raj Giriraj Singh, seeking funds for Bengal under the scheme. Each letter has the job card number, wage dues and other details,” said Avijit De Bhowmik, the district Trinamul president, who, along with other party leaders, flagged off a vehicle with the letters.
Recently, Abhishek said he would go to Delhi with 1 crore letters of beneficiaries of the job and housing schemes for which the Centre froze funds meant for Bengal. Many observers felt it was Trinamul's bid to put pressure on the BJP ahead of the rural polls.
District BJP chief Sukumar Roy seemed unfazed by this letter drive and accused Trinamul of massive corruption in central schemes.
