On May 13, as the first spell of pre-monsoon showers lashed the coastal city of Mumbai accompanied by severe dust storm, a 120X120 foot hoarding, the biggest in India as per the Limca Book of Records, fell over houses and a fuel station in the Ghatkopar area. The billboard crash killed at least 17 people and injured over 70.
A case was filed against Bhavesh Bhinde, the owner of ad agency Ego Media that put up the billboard. Initially on the run, he was arrested from Rajasthan after a cat and mouse chase spanned over 3 states, involving 8 teams of the Mumbai police. With at least 23 cases against him, including one of rape, Bhinde is no stranger to offences.
