Almost 15 years before Mahatma Gandhi wrote, “A flag is a necessity for all nations”, a group of revolutionaries introduced the first Indian flag in Calcutta in 1906. 25 years later, a freedom fighter from present day Andhra Pradesh introduced the tricolour to that flag in 1931. The flag that we know, and salute today was adopted in 1947.
