Mithila Mahato, a 66-year-old resident of Sundradi village in West Bengal's Purulia district has been living in a toilet! Since her mud-thatched hut reportedly got destroyed in heavy rains last year, the abandoned toilet that was built as part of the government’s campaign to eradicate open defecation, has become her makeshift house. She covers the pot with a piece of cloth and sleeps cramped inside the 4 feet by 3 feet toilet.

When the matter coming to light just days ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, ruling TMC and opposition BJP were quick to shift blame. The administration has assured Mithila of timely solution. Until then, this tiny toilet is Mithila's home...
