Retracing the Ayodhya story

Over 150 years after the first instance of religious violence reported at the Babri Masjid site under the British Raj, Supreme Court in 2019 delivered a verdict paving the way for the construction of Ram Mandir. On January 2024, Ram lalla idol (idol of Lord Ram as an infant) was consecrated at the newly-built Ayodhya temple. Prime minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Ram temple at Ayodhya, marking the culmination of contemporary India’s most bitter dispute.

Now, the newly revised NCERT political science textbook for Class 12 has omitted the name Babri Masjid, instead referring to it as a "three-domed structure". The revised textbook has reduced the Ayodhya section from four pages to just two. Additionally, significant details from the earlier version has been removed.
