Sikkim police have arrested three persons in Calcutta who allegedly impersonated Reliance Jio company officials to cheat nearly Rs. 7 lakh from a resident of Geyzing.
A three-member investigating team of Geyzing police station was successful in tracking down and nabbing the three accused between February 8 and 10 at different locations in Calcutta.
The accused are Saurav Kumar Keshri, Dhananjoy Jaiswal Porgoahin and Subhodeep Dutta Mitra.
DIG (Range) Bhim Kumar Tamang in a media release said the three are now in custody of Geyzing police.
Tamang said complainant Bishnu Prasad Sharma had lodged an FIR stating that unidentified persons had swindled from him Rs. 6.93 lakh in aggregate through online mode. They had taken the amount on the pretext of installing a Reliance Jio tower on his land at Bermiok Berthang, Geyzing district, posing as “the chairman and other officials” of Reliance Jio.
Following the FIR, a case under Sections 419, 420, 468 and 34 of the IPC was registered against the unidentified persons. DIG Tamang said technological support from Geyzing police cyber cell helped investigators to track down the accused in Calcutta.
