Bhubaneswar: A film gallery is the latest attraction at the Odisha State Museum here that will be inaugurated on Friday, the International Day of Museum.
The renovated coins gallery will also be opened the same day.
A number of rare photographs related to Odia films released till 1986 will be on display. Around 81 photographs taken during the music recording of films will also be put up.
The pictures have been collected from various production houses, film magazines and by visiting families of music directors and crew of the films.
Each photographs has details of the recording studio, the name and release date of the film, its cast and the musicians involved.
Photographs of prominent music directors of Odia cinema, including Akshaya Mohanty, Raghunath Panigrahi and Balakrushna Das, will also be on display.
These apart, gramophonic records of cult Odia films such as Sita Bibaha and Jai Jagannath will be present. The collection will include posters of 80 films released from 1936 to 1986. Gradually, posters of recent films will also be added.
"The gallery will throw light on how Odia cinema has evolved over the years. Odia film music has been popular through the years and it is imperative that we preserve them for future references," said Jayanti Rath, superintendent in charge of the museum.
A collection of ancient coins belonging to 14 dynasties in India will be on display in the coin gallery.
"The museum has become a treasure house of numismatic findings. We want people to experience history through coins in the gallery," she said.
A mix-media workshop for schoolchildren will be hosted on Friday.
