Jagatsinghpur: Police on Tuesday busted a four-member gang of ATM robbers that had vandalised an ATM kiosk last month and looted over Rs 12 lakh from its chest.

The cops nabbed the gang members in connection with the ATM loot case on May 11 at Mulasingh village marketplace in Tirtol police limits.

They had broken open the chest of the ATM and decamped with Rs 12.23 lakh. They had also damaged the CCTV camera installed at the kiosk to avoid detection. The gang had used tools such as gas cutters to break open the cash chest.

The arrested accused are Asit Kandi, Sushant Sahu, Biswajit Das and Subhrajit Parida. All of them are hardened criminals and facing trials in over 25 cases of burglary, robbery and snatching. They were arrested last year for burgling the house of a judicial officer at Balikuda.

"The gang targeted the ATM kiosk as it was unguarded and located at a deserted spot," said Tirtol police station inspector Balaram Nayak.

Two other members of the gang are still at large. Of the Rs 12.23 lakh, the cops have recovered Rs 2.47 lakh. A cutter fitted with a cylinder, four computers, a laptop and other tools were also seized.

The cops also suspect that the gang was involved in other such cases and will seek their remand for their probe.
