Mizoram gets first all-women police station

Mizoram home minister Lalchamliana on Friday inaugurated the first all-women police station at the Aizawl police station complex, official sources said.

He also launched the Mizoram safety mobile application and a traffic e-challan system, two new initiatives to improve and upgrade policing service in the state.

Lalchamliana praised the state police for their unending endeavour to serve the people in the most effective, efficient and public-friendly way. He lauded director-general of police S.B.K. Singh for spearheading the initiatives which became operational on Friday.

Lalchamliana said efforts are on to open women police stations in other districts as well. According to the minister, the government is also taking measures to recruit more women constables. He said women constituted 7 per cent of the state police.

The new police station is designed to cater to the residents of Aizawl district and will be under the administrative control of the Investigative Unit of Crime against Women. The station will be manned by female staff consisting officers and constables and will deal exclusively with cases related to crimes against women and children.

Lalchamliana also expressed hope that the safety application and the e-challan would cater to the needs of the people.

The Mizoram safety app is an android application designed in collaboration with the state information and communications department to enable the public to easily and quickly contact the police in times of need.

This application is available on Google Play.

The traffic e-challan system is a comprehensive digital solution for traffic enforcement system delivered through an Android-based mobile application and web portal.

It aims at improving service access and transparency in the system. The system is integrated with VAHAN and Sarathi applications and provides a number of user-friendly features, covering all major functionalities of traffic enforcement system such as on-the spot challan system and payment, ease of operations for traffic policemen, improved transparency and visibility in operations and efficient monitoring.
