Ghana has opened its doors to investment from the Northeast.

This was said by Eddison Mensah Agbenyyegah, head of mission at Ghana embassy in India at the three-day first international summit and trade fair organised by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, (MSME) Export Promotion Council, here on Friday.

The meet is being held for aspiring entrepreneurs in the Northeast to pave the way for development of entrepreneurship and businesses by women and youths of the region.

Assam is the host state of the international summit with business participants from various countries.

The summit will focus on health, tourism, food and food processing, organic food, IT/ITES, infrastructure, horticulture, handicrafts, and handloom for start-ups.

“We have been holding meetings in different cities of the country. Now we will focus on the Northeast in the next few years,” he said.

Delegates mainly from African countries were the foreign participants. There were others from Myanmar and Israel.

MSME Export Promotion Council chairman D.S. Rawat said the council would connect the MSMEs with global buyers and technology centres. It has already started a movement for creating awareness for ST/SC entrepreneurs development and women empowerment. This will help them take benefits of government schemes.

Manipur MP Rajkumar Ranjan Singh said the Act East Policy has changed the Northeast from landlocked to land-linked. “We have traditional industries which need to be activated,” he said.

An official from Israel said they have a fund which supports innovation.

Assam MP Bhubaneswar Kalita said the Northeast can partner with African countries based on its capabilities.

MSME established an export promotion cell in January last year to create a sustainable ecosystem for its development.
