Patna: More than 500 BEd-qualified candidates on Monday protested at Nalanda Open University against seat allotment at government and private BEd colleges.

Based on results of the combined BEd entrance test conducted by the university last month, the varsity had carried out counselling of candidates followed by which seats were allotted.

Ghanshyam Kumar, who has been allotted seat at Government Teachers' Training College, Saharsa, said: "I received the allotment letter on August 10. But when I reached the college for taking admission they refused."

However, the university administration claimed that the issue raised by students had been sorted out. Nalanda Open University registrar S.P. Sinha said: "The students' issue of government colleges not taking admission of candidates has been sorted. The state government on Monday evening issued a letter directing government colleges to accept admission of candidates."

Sinha added: "The allotment of seats at colleges is done based on merit list prepared after results."

Due to students' protest, traffic near the Biscomaun building was paralysed for nearly 30 minutes. The police had to lathicharge the students to lift the road blockade.
