AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi, who took part in the protest, said, “Our democratic protests against this contentious law will not stop because this involves the existence of the Assamese community.”

He said the protest would spread to all parts of the state and demanded the release of KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi and others arrested during anti-CAA protests.

He asked the people of the state to ensure that and BJP and its allies should not come to power again in the state.

The joint secretary of the All Tai Ahom Students’ Union, Milan Buragohain, appealed to people to organise awareness meetings against the CAA. He also hoped for an alternative political party that can compete against the BJP.

A professor in the Assamese department of Dibrugarh University, Pallavi Deka Buzarbaruah, said the people had lost their faith against the state and central governments.

The protest meet was inaugurated by Dibrugarh University professor Satyakam Borthakur.
