It’s time to put speculation to rest because Zinedine Zidane has stepped down as Real Madrid coach. The Spanish club has confirmed the development by issuing an official statement on its website.

“Real Madrid C. F. announces that Zinedine Zidane has decided to bring an end to his current spell as head coach of our club. We must now respect his decision and express our gratitude for his professionalism, dedication and passion over the years and what he means to Real Madrid. Zidane is one of Real Madrid’s great icons and his legacy extends beyond what he has achieved as a coach and player at our club. He is aware that he has a place in the hearts of the Real Madrid fans and that he will always have a home at Real Madrid,” the club said.

Zidane’s exit has come at a very difficult time for the club. Real Madrid have not won a trophy for the first time in 11 seasons, after losing to Chelsea (3-1 on aggregate) in the Champions League semi-finals, and then failing to win the La Liga title race.

This is the second time Zizou has resigned as manager of Los Blancos. After taking charge for the first time in 2016, he resigned in May 2018 after taking the club to three Champions League and one La Liga title.

Reports suggest he might take charge of the French national team or Serie A giants Juventus.
