Wriddhiman Saha returned to the city on Monday evening after serving his quarantine period at a New Delhi hotel where he had tested Covid-19 positive during the IPL earlier this month.
The wicketkeeper-batsman is part of the England-bound India squad for the World Test Championship final against New Zealand and the subsequent five-Test series against England.
Saha had to complete his 17-day isolation after one of his two Covid-19 tests came negative and the other was positive. He is expected to join the rest of the squad in Mumbai on May 24 from where they will leave for London on June 2 by a chartered flight.
The BCCI has also arranged chartered flights for all members of the contingent to fly to Mumbai to serve their mandatory quarantine. The flights will fly out of Delhi and Chennai on Thursday.
The players and support staff have been told to report to Delhi, Hyderabad and Chennai to avail these flights. The likes of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal, who are from Bangalore, have been told to drive down to Chennai to take the flight, which will reach Mumbai via Hyderabad.
Those in Mumbai will join the team’s quarantine base on May 24 after a few days in home quarantine. Saha, however, will have to take a commercial flight from Calcutta.
“He has just recovered from Covid-19. Due to the presence of antibodies, he is at low risk of picking up a fresh infection,” someone in the know of things told The Telegraph.
The contingent will have to go through a 10-day isolation period on reaching Southampton of which the first few days will be strictly indoors. Thereafter they can practice at the venue while serving their quarantine.
