It has been 40 years and one day since Bjorn Borg played his last Wimbledon final to the sound of women screaming his name.

And on Monday, his son Leo, seeded 14th in the boy’s category, won his maiden Wimbledon match.

The 18-year-old Swede defeated Marko Topo of Serbia 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-0. He somewhat lost the confidence he showed in the first set in the second where Topo managed to win the tie-breaker. But in the decider, Leo did not allow his opponent an inch and advanced to the second round.

On July 4, 1981, Leo’s father Bjorn’s streak of five Wimbledon titles was brought to an end by John McEnroe, who finally overcame his rival in a four-set thriller. The Swedish tennis titan never returned to the main draw.

Leo has a world ranking of 2090 and career earnings of $4,686, but is garnering attention. He also made it to the third round of the junior competition at the French Open.

Leo has been training at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Spain and the Royal Tennis Club in Sweden. He has said that his “lowest goal” is to reach the top ten.
