Kenya’s former world marathon record holder Wilson Kipsang spent the night in jail after being arrested drinking and playing pool with a large group after a night-time curfew, police said Friday. Kipsang, who claimed the world record during the 2013 Berlin marathon, is a police officer who is currently under provisional suspension from the World Integrity Anti-Doping Unit (AIU).
Tokyo plans
The under-construction Athletes Village for the Tokyo Olympics could be used as a temporary hospital for cornoavirus patients. The complex, which will eventually include 24 buildings, is expected to remain unoccupied with the Olympics delayed for 16 months.
Farah focused
British distance great Mo Farah has insisted he still intends to compete at the Tokyo Olympics even though they have been delayed a year by the coronavirus. “In a way obviously it’s disappointing it has been cancelled but I am glad it has been cancelled,” Farah said. “It is what it is and it gives us another year of preparation.”
Tevez’s appeal
Argentine footballer Carlos Tevez said football must do more to help society’s most disadvantaged sectors and called on his colleagues to get involved with those less fortunate than themselves. “It’s important for everyone to be united and to try and help the people who most need it,” he said. “I hope the world shows more solidarity. We are realising that we are all equal.”
