Steve Smith’s second straight century in the ongoing ODI series versus India may not have happened as he revealed waking up with vertigo on Sunday that had him doubting whether he would be fit to play in the game.

“I had a really bad dose of vertigo in the morning and I was struggling until I came down early to have a hit and a bit of a run around. The team doctor performed six Epley manoeuvres on me and got the crystals out of my ears.

“I’m just pleased to be able to get out there and play another good innings to help the team,” Smith told cricket.com.au.

“The fact that I could come out and play was really pleasing in the end. It didn’t look great out there for a while.”

Smith rated Sunday’s century as better than that of the first ODI as he didn’t offer any chances. He was able to play with freedom after David Warner and Aaron Finch combined for a 142-run opening partnership.
