Fresh from his maiden clay-court title at the Rome Masters, Daniil Medvedev is taking nothing for granted before starting his French Open campaign at Roland Garros.

The world No.2 has been finding his range on the red dirt to the point that he is now cited as one of the favourites to lift the Musketeers’ cup on June 11.

He will, of course, have the top seed Carlos Alcaraz to deal with. The young Spaniard is ready to step into the gap created by the absence of compatriot Rafael Nadal.

In the women’s field, the three-way rivalry between world No.1 Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina will play out here, with the world No.1 spot up for grabs.

Touted as the next ‘Big Three’ rivalry in tennis and with the sport in desperate need of such narratives, the trio have won seven tournaments between them this year.

The largest number of American players, 35 (19 women and 16 men) in almost 30 years will be seen in action. Notable among them are third seed Jessica Pegula and sixth seed Coco Gauff, last year’s runner-up.
