The executive board of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) on Wednesday decided to issue a show-cause notice to star player Manika Batra, asking her to explain why she didn’t take the national coach’s help during the Tokyo Olympics.
She has to reply within 10 days of receipt of the notice.
“We have decided to serve a show-cause notice on Manika. We have also made it compulsory that all players, if fit and available, will have to report for the future national camps. And they have to train under the national coach. Sparring partners and personal coaches will not be allowed,” TTFI secretary Arun Banerjee told The Telegraph from Lucknow.
Manika had refused to take national coach Soumyadeep Roy’s help during the Tokyo Games, raising several eyebrows. She had insisted on having her personal coach, Sanmay Paranjape, who did not have field of play access.
Manika, who’s based in Pune, rarely attended the three-week camp held at Sonipat while Sathiyan Gnanasekaran preferred to work under his personal coach Subramaniam Raman in Chennai.
