Virender Sehwag is not one to mince words, be it on Twitter or any cricket show.
This time around, the former opening batsman has asked the Team India selectors about the non-selection of Yuzvendra Chahal for the upcoming T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman.
On a web show with CricBuzz, Sehwag said, "I could never understand why he was not selected. Some sort of a reason should be given, whether he is out of form or if there seems to be someone who is better and bowls extraordinarily. It is not like we saw Rahul Chahar bowled really well during the Sri Lanka tour. I just couldn't understand why Chahal was dropped and the way he is bowling, he can walk straight into any team in the world."
For the tournament, senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was included in the 15-member squad alongside Ishan Kishan, Axar Patel and mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy. 34-year-old Ashwin had last played white-ball cricket for India in 2017.
Kishan and Chakaravarthy were rewarded for their consistent performance in the IPL and the few opportunities they got with the Indian team.
Here's the squad for the mega event starting October 17:
Squad: Virat Kohli (captain), Rohit Sharma (vc), KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami.
Standby players: Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar.
