Sri Lanka will aim to fine-tune their skills when they face the Netherlands in their last qualifying Group A game of the T20 World Cup on Friday.

Qualification is no longer an issue for the islanders as they have already booked a berth in the Super 12s, but they will surely want their struggling top-order batters to get some runs ahead of the tougher challenges that are lined up.

Sri Lanka easily got past Namibia and Ireland to earn qualification but the lack of form of Kusal Perera and Dinesh Chandimal would be a worry for them. Both of them managed just 11 runs each in the two games.

The Lankan bowlers, however, have warmed up for the bigger battle nicely. The pacers — Chamika Karunaratne and Dushmantha Chameera — have shown control and match-winning leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has looked in his elements.

The Dutch, on the other hand, have dished out lacklustre performances.

A berth at stake

It will be a winner-takes-it-all battle when Namibia and Ireland clash on Friday.

Both the teams have lost to Sri Lanka and beaten the Netherlands and thus have two points each. So the winner of Friday’s clash will become the second side from Group A to advance to the next stage.

Ireland will hope for a better display with the bat. They made short work of the Dutch in their campaign opener but failed to cope against the formidable Sri Lankan bowling attack. Pacers Curtis Campher (4 wickets), Joshua Little (5 wickets) and Mark Adair (5 wickets) have done well with the ball and Ireland will be counting on the trio to get the job done against Namibia.

Tournament debutants Namibia will be high on confidence having completed their highest-successful chase in a T20I to notch up their maiden World Cup win on Wednesday against the Netherlands.

Experienced all-rounder David Wiese will have to use skills to the fullest if Namibia are to shock Ireland.
