Three wins in a row so far in this T20 World Cup have helped Pakistan prove to the rest of the cricketing world what they are capable of. Perched comfortably atop the Group II points table, Babar Azam’s side are just a win away from securing their place in the last-four stage of the competition.

The semi-final berth will be sealed if Pakistan beat Namibia in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. And the kind of cricket Pakistan have been playing since their tournament opener versus India, that shouldn’t be too tedious a task for Babar’s troops, though Namibia have tried to put up a spirited effort in almost all their matches so far.

What has been a bane for Pakistan for decades is their inconsistency, which on several occasions in the past have gone on to hurt them. But this seems to be a new Pakistan side altogether, where an ideal dressing room atmosphere too assumes a lot of significance and gives someone like an Asif Ali to express himself in critical phases of a game, senior cricketer Shoaib Malik pointed out.

“Since I’ve joined the team, looking at the practice sessions and the way the guys have dealt with pressure from the world till now, they’ve all been done exceptionally well. And I guess to see consistency in the Pakistan dressing room is the biggest thing for me so far, as everyone’s helping each other,” Malik said on Monday.

“It’s a team game, after all. When you’re playing a team game, you need your teammates’ help as well as a lot of support from your team management. And I see all of that coming,” Malik stressed.

But make no mistake, Pakistan aren’t taking Namibia lightly even after the associate side got hammered by Afghanistan in their previous game.

“To be honest, we are not thinking differently when it comes to this game because you can’t take the opposition lightly in the T20 format,” Malik stated.

It remains to be seen whether Pakistan make any changes.
