Kidambi Srikanth, Priyansh Rajawat and Kiran George won their respective men’s singles round-of-16 matches to advance to the quarter finals of the Swiss Open here on Thursday night.
PV Sindhu’s run, however, was cut short by a Japanese teenager, while Lakshya Sen lost to Lee Chia-Hao of Taiwan in the pre-quarter finals of the Super 300 tournament here.
Srikanth defeated top seed Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia 21-61, 21-15, while Rajawat got the better of Lei La Xi of China 21-14, 21-13. George pevailed over France’s Alex Lanier 18-21, 22-20, 21-18.
Srikanth will take on Lee Chia-Hao, while Rajawat will clash against Taiwan’s Chou Tien-Chen. George will look to get past Rasmus Gemke of Denmark.
Sindhu lost to Japan’s 17-year-old junior world champion Tomoka Miyazaki 21-16, 19-21, 16-21. Sen was eliminated by Lee Chia-hao 17-21, 15-21 in just 38 minutes in the round-of 16 contest.
The Indian women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand bowed out in the quarter finals, losing 14-21, 15-21 to Australia’s Setyana Mapasa and Angela Yu on Friday.
Earlier on Thursday, they had defeated compatriots Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra 21-10, 21-12.
