Defending champions Australia advanced to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup semi-finals after knocking out New Zealand with a four-run win in their must-win final Group A match here on Monday. Beth Mooney’s brilliant half-century proved to be the difference as Australia halted New Zealand in a chase of 155 four runs short. India, South Africa and England have already advanced to the knockout stage.

Shuttlers Tasnim Mir and Mansi Singh won a bronze medal each in the girls’ singles event at the Yonex Dutch Junior International 2020 in Haarlem, Netherlands. Mir lost to third seed So Yul Lee 19-21 10-22. Mansi lost to Indonesia’s Saifi Rizka Nurhidayah 11-21, 16-21.
CSKA Sofia fined
CSKA Sofia have been fined 37,500 levs ($21,343) for the racist behaviour of their fans during their domestic league match against Tsarsko Selo on Saturday, the Bulgarian Football Union said on Monday. Tsarsko Selo’s Congolese striker Dylan Bahamboula was subjected to racially abusive and insulting words by CSKA fans after scoring the winning goal in his team’s 2-1 win.
Sangwan’s doping ban lifted
The one-year doping ban on former Asian silver-medallist boxer Sumit Sangwan was on Monday lifted after he proved that his intake of a banned substance was unintentional in a hearing conducted by the National Anti-Doping Agency (Nada) here.
Dembele’s brace
Olympique Lyonnais soared into the Ligue 1 top five after a Moussa Dembele brace and a string of fine saves by Anthony Lopes gave them a 2-0 home win over local rivals St Etienne on Sunday. The result lifted Lyon five places to fifth in the standings on 40 points from 27 games while St Etienne stayed 16th on 29 points, two points above the relegation zone.

AS Roma’s Croatia forward Nikola Kalinic scored a brace, his first goals for the club, as they recovered from a goal behind to win 4-3 at Cagliari in a pulsating Serie A game on Sunday. Roma, with 45 points from 26 games, are three behind fourth-placed Atalanta, who won 7-2 at Lecce and have a game in hand.
Parting ways
Turkey’s Fenerbahce said on Sunday they had parted ways with coach Ersun Yanal by mutual agreement following a crushing home defeat by arch-rivals Galatasaray. Last week, Galatasaray beat Fenerbahce 3-1 in Istanbul’s Kadikoy for the first time in more than 20 years, leading to outrage from the home supporters.
Sampaoli at helm
Former Argentina and Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli has been put in charge of Atletico Mineiro, the Brazilian club announced on Sunday. Sampaoli takes over from Venezuelan Rafael Dudamel, who was fired on Thursday after less than two months in the job.
