The frailties of ‘Young India’ against disciplined spin bowling was exposed by Sri Lanka as they won the final T20I comfortably by seven wickets with 33 balls to spare in Colombo on Thursday and also sealed the series.
This was Sri Lanka’s first T20I series win since beating Pakistan in 2019 and also a bilateral series victory against India after a long time.
Again led by leg-spinner and birthday boy Wanindu Hasaranga (4-0-9-4), Sri Lankans exploited the frailties of the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devdutt Padikkal and even Sanju Samson as India — paralysed by the circumstances following Krunal Pandya testing Covid-19 positive — hobbled to 81/8 after winning the toss.
Brief scores: India 81/8 in 20 ovs (W. Hasaranga 4/9, D. Shanaka 2/20). Sri Lanka 82/3 in 14.3 ovs. Sri Lanka won by 7 wickets
