The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), at its first annual general meeting since 2015, decided to go ahead with its special membership that allows one to get all top facilities like those of hospitality boxes during international and IPL matches at the Eden.

Proposed during an SGM a year ago, the special membership tickets require one to shell out Rs 2.5 lakh for five years with around 1,800 seats to be reserved at the L block for those availing the facility.

Sourav Ganguly, who was re-elected unopposed as president and is set to represent the CAB at the BCCI AGM on October 23, agreed that fundraising was a major reason behind implementing the special membership.

“Cricket development costs, which include our indoor (facilities) overhaul, preparing our new ground (at Dumurjala) are the matters that hopefully will be addressed,” Sourav said on Saturday.

Sourav also added that the role of those former cricketers under the cricket committee would primarily be coaching and looking into other technical aspects of the game. “But it also depends if they would fall under the Conflict of Interest issue…,” Sourav said.

Meanwhile, Barun Barman will be added to the senior selection committee, but it’s subject to some clearances as he has served six-seven years as a selector in the past.
