The special general meeting (SGM) of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to elect its new president is likely to be held in December.

According to sources, the SGM could go ahead only after the second and final India versus Bangladesh Test, to be held at Eden Gardens from November 22.

“A 14 days’ notice has to be served for the SGM. Nothing has been discussed officially so far regarding this… there is hardly any time as preparations have to be made for the India-Bangladesh Test match.

“So, under the circumstances, the SGM can only happen after the Test. In all probability, it will take place in December,” a well-placed source said.

It was also learnt people who matter in the CAB aren’t quite in favour of changing the pecking order even though the president’s post remains vacant after Sourav Ganguly was elected the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s chief.

“It may so happen that things remain the same as it is now, but you also need to see what members want,” someone in the know of things said.

As per the CAB constitution, the vice-president has to discharge the functions of the president in the absence of the latter. The cricket committee of the state association is likely to come into existence by November 8-10, subject to the clarifications.

Meanwhile, there appears to be a cloud over senior batsman Sudip Chatterjee’s spot in the Bengal squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy that begins next month. Sources said the left-handed batsman’s lean patch and his current performances would certainly be a topic of discussion during the team selection meeting.
