Sourav Ganguly may not complete his remaining 10 months as president of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).

According to The Telegraph’s sources, the former India captain is considering relinquishing his post in April before the start of the next edition of the IPL.

Sourav is an advisor to Delhi Capitals and doesn’t wish to be again involved in the conflict of interest clause under the BCCI constitution.

The CAB president’s post has come into focus after the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators on Friday made it clear that the state associations have to complete their elections by September 28.

The CAB has also decided to fall in line and will issue a notice on Saturday that the AGM will be held on September 28. There’s some uncertainty though since Mahalaya falls on the same day.

The ruling and opposition factions at the CAB are trying to avoid a contest for the five posts as per the new constitution. Former treasurer and joint secretary Bablu Kolay’s name is doing the rounds for the vice-president’s post.

Under the new rules, Kolay has only one year at his disposal, having completed eight years in the two previous positions he held at the CAB. He is being regarded as a consensus candidate and could fill in for Sourav once the former captain decides to give up the president’s chair.

Avishek Dalmiya will continue as the secretary while there are several candidates in the running for the joint secretary’s post — former state cricketer and Sourav’s elder brother Snehasish being the most prominent face.

Naresh Ojha is being tipped as the treasurer though Prabir Chakraborty’s name is also doing the rounds. Whoever loses out will be in the running for the joint secretary’s post along with Debasish Ganguly.
