Shikhar Dhawan wants more runs and more wins in the new year.

The opener, who had been troubled by injuries in 2019, is aiming for a fresh start and wants to become a “more impactful” batsman.

“Last year, I had lots of injuries, but that’s part and parcel of our work. It’s a new year and I am looking forward for a new start and it’s going to go a long way,” Dhawan told bcci.tv. “This year I am looking forward to score lots of runs and be a more impactful player, win matches for my team and win the (T20) World Cup,” he added.

The left-handed batsman was ruled out of the 2019 ODI World Cup midway after sustaining a thumb fracture. He missed the home T20I engagement against the West Indies as well with a knee injury.

However, sitting out of the team for off-form or injuries failed to dent Dhawan’s confidence. “I am always positive. Injuries are quite natural, so I just take it in my stride. I don’t make a fuss about it,” the Delhi player said.

He is a part of the squad for the ongoing T20I series against Sri Lanka and Dhawan is eyeing a successful return to the international scene.

“It’s a good opportunity for me to come and score big runs,” he said.
