Aaron Finch thinks he was “incredible”, Glenn Maxwell feels he is looking “pretty scary”, but the man himself, Steve Smith, is simply happy because he is being able to play “nice” cricketing shots.

After an ordinary IPL, Smith has announced his return to form in style, hammering back-to-back centuries against India and winning two Man of the Match awards as well.

“I tried to whack the ball a bit too hard in the IPL, now I have started to hit the ball with a bit more finesse, which is probably working better for me. I’m just playing nice cricketing shots... It’s nice to score some runs again for the team and get us to a good total,” Smith said at the post-match presentation.

About his 64-ball 104, Smith said: “I felt good from ball one. Got myself in and went hard. It was another great foundation set by Finchy (Aaron Finch) and Davey (David Warner). That enabled myself and Maxi (Glenn Maxwell) to go hard at the back end. Against India, you need to score big totals. It was just about taking the game on. Fortunately, it’s come off in the last couple of games.”

Maxwell was all praise for Smith.

“As he said the other day, he has found his hands, he is looking pretty scary at the moment for opposition teams. He is placing the ball as well as anyone around the world. When he puts the foot down, he goes and goes hard,” Maxwell said at the post-match media conference.

“He is picking his spots… And he has got so much time at the moment,” Maxwell added.

Maxwell himself made an unbeaten 63 on Sunday.
