Steve’s ATK SWOT analysis
Strength: As Mr Goenka said, we have goals. We’ve got to create an environment where our most creative players have sufficient ball in the most dangerous areas of the pitch so that they can hurt teams. When we are defending and don’t have the ball, we have to be organised and proficient enough that we will be difficult to beat. In the course of any season, there is never a team that has everything the right way. There are going to be difficult moments and times when your back is against the wall and then you need organisational qualities and personality traits that make you strong.
Weakness: To be determined. Preparing for a season to a certain extent is reasonably easy because you are not in the pressure cooker. It’s amazing with footballers that if you have penalty competition on a Tuesday morning, everybody wants to take it and most people will score. But when there are 60-70,000 people and everything depends, men become jelly sometimes. We need players who can perform under pressure consistently.
Opportunities: We have real potential and depth, so that if we have injuries, we can cope with them. You need your senior players to be role models for the rest of the squad, for the young Indian players. I hope and trust that my senior players are good examples not only in their performance but also in their mentality. Both things are critical.
Threats: Every team we play is a threat. The teams with continuity are obviously going to be a danger.
