India tennis star Sania Mirza and her Slovenian partner Andreja Klepac sailed into the women’s doubles semi-finals of the Qatar Open with a straight-sets win here on Wednesday.
Sania and Andreja made short work of fourth seeds Anna Blinkova and Gabriela Dabrowski 6-2, 6-0 to reach the last-four round.
The Indo-Slovenian pair will next play top seeds Czech Republic’s Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova who defeated the Dutch duo of Kiki Bertens and Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove 4-6, 6-4, 13-11 in another quarter final.
In her first match since September, Madison Keys beat Belinda Bencic 6-4, 6-1 in a first-round encounter on Tuesday. Keys hit 24 winners against 13 for the sixth-seeded Bencic, who was coming off a loss to Iga Swiatek in the final of the Adelaide International.
Keys missed the Australian Open after testing positive shortly before she was due to fly to Melbourne on a chartered flight. “It’s amazing to be back. I’m smiling under my mask,” Keys said. “Disappointed that I couldn’t go to Australia, but very happy to be here.”
