With numerous fans wearing bright pink “Barty Party” T-shirts in the stands of Rod Laver Arena supporting her, the 23-year-old Barty had relatively little trouble against the 20-year-old from Kazakhstan.
A tearful but happy Caroline Wozniacki headed into retirement after a 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 third-round defeat at the hands of Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur ended her participation here and her 16-year career.

Former Australian Open runner-up Marin Cilic rolled back the years to outlast ninth seed Roberto Bautista Agut over five sets and book a spot in the round of 16.
The 31-year-old unseeded Croatian won 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-0, 5-7, 6-3 at the Melbourne Arena.
Meanwhile, India’s Divij Sharan and his New Zealand partner Artem Sitak were knocked out of the men’s doubles competition after going down in straight sets to Bruno Soares and Mate Pavic.
Sharan and Sitak lost to the Brazilian-Croat pair 6-7, 3-6 in a second round match that lasted one hour and 17 minutes.
