SC East Bengal have played six matches in ISL VII so far but are yet to taste victory. Coach Robbie Fowler though believes three points are round the corner.
“The tide is turning. And hopefully, it will happen pretty soon,” Fowler said on the eve of the match against Chennaiyin FC.
SC East Bengal are at the bottom of the table with two points. In the last match, they led 1-0 against Kerala Blasters in Bambolim but conceded an injury-time goal to lose two points.
Fowler feels the morale of his team is in the right place. “The morale that we have here is good. At times we’ve been unlucky. It’s totally unfortunate that you’re conceding goals at the last minute. But the lads played really well and we created a lot of chances.
“We could have won the game quite convincingly. But that’s how football is.”
Fowler thinks his players are quite motivated. “It shouldn’t be difficult to motivate any player. This is a job that we all love to do. We play the game because we love it. So the motivation is there. We are not a million miles away.”
The team management has decided to loan out nine Indian players who, according to the think tank, are non-performing assets. When asked about that, Fowler said: “We are trying to get the best results for the club and we feel that some of the boys who aren’t playing can go elsewhere and get some match-time. It is not nice to make such decisions but they have to be done, and the decision is mine.
“My job is to try and get the best of results, bring the best people to the club.
“We are bringing in new names in the squad. We are always looking for players who are available and who, we feel, can help the team.”
