Commonwealth gold medallist weightlifter Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu is on cloud nine after being cleared of the charges of using anabolic substances and she is contemplating suing the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) for implicating her wrongly and depriving her from international competitions.

Chanu was charged by the United States anti-doping agency during random sample collection in Las Vegas, prior to the 2017 World Championship in Anaheim.

She had, however, denied the charges and fought for justice till getting the clean chit from the IWF.

An elated Chanu later said: “I am very happy to have been cleared of the charges.

“I was sidelined for last two years for no fault of mine. The false charges have left me traumatised. I have never done anything wrong or taken any banned substances.

“At one point in time, I was even thinking of taking extreme steps as the charges questioned my hard work. But the support of my family helped me to fight back.”

She added: “I want the IWF to compensate for the damage done to my career and also for depriving me of sporting activities for the last two years.”
