India head coach Ravi Shastri has hailed Mohammed Siraj as the find of the Australia tour.
The pacer had a memorable outing Down Under where he overcame several odds to finish as India’s highest wicket-taker — 13 — of the Test series.
“Find of the tour for shoring up the bowling attack the way he did — Mohd Siraj. He fought through personal loss, racial remarks and channelised them to find home in the team huddle,” Shastri tweeted on Friday in praise of the 26-year-old pacer.
Siraj decided against returning home after his father passed away barely a week after the cricketer from Hyderabad landed in Australia.
He made his Test debut in Melbourne, after Mohammed Shami was ruled out following an injury. Siraj returned with match figures of 7/150 as India recorded a memorable three-wicket win in the series-deciding Test at the Gabba. India clinched the series 2-1.
