Help for Dingko
Boxers Vijender Singh and Manoj Kumar have stepped forward to raise funds for Asian Games gold-winning former pugilist Dingko Singh, who is battling liver cancer and will be flown to Delhi on Saturday for radiation therapy.
ICA initiative
The Indian Cricketers’ Association (ICA) will set up a fund for needy and struggling former cricketers and their families in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. Ashok Malhotra, president of the ICA, made an appeal to contribute at least Rs 1,000 to the fund that will start with an amount ranging from Rs 10-50 lakh for the benefit of 25 former cricketers.
AICF feud
The factional feud in All India Chess Federation (AICF) came to the fore again when one group close to Bharat Singh Chauhan disaffiliated the Bengal Chess Association alleging elections were not held as per norms. “The AICF president (Venketrama Raja) had already said the special general meeting was illegal. So this decision to disaffiliate us doesn’t hold any ground,” senior official Atanu Lahiri said.
DDCA secy in jail
Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) general secretary Vinod Tihara is in jail for allegedly failing to “comply with GST norms” after going “incommunicado” amid speculation that he was self-isolating with Covid-19 symptoms. Tihara had been “unreachable” since mid-March. “We were under the impression that Vinod ji has tested positive for Covid-19. His family members said he is under isolation,” a senior DDCA office-bearer said.
