PV Sindhu is physically and mentally in the best shape but said she needs to be “much more smarter” if she has to win her third Olympic medal.
Paris Games, which begins on July 26, will be her third Olympics and she has won a silver in her first (Rio 2016) and bronze in Tokyo 2020.
“You need to be smart. I feel like (I’m) getting there. (I am) not overconfident, but definitely wiser and more smarter and hoping to win another medal,” the 28-year-old Sindhu said on Sunday during a media interaction arranged by the Sports Authority of India in association with the Badminton Association of India and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
“It is not impossible to win my third medal in the Olympics. I have learnt a lot from my mistakes in the recent past. I have to give my 100 per cent. Physically and mentally I am in good shape. My coach Agus (Dwi Santoso) and my trainer are taking care of things.”
Sindhu said she is not just focussing on the podium finish. “I am working on all the strokes, whether it is defence, or attack or netplay, it is important to be perfect in all things. So I’m not focussing on just one stroke or technique, because you never know what it is going to be.”
Sindhu is currently training at the Hermann-Neuberger Sportschule in Saarbrucken, Germany. She will be heading to Paris directly from there.
Asked why she picked Germany as her training base ahead of the Games, Sindhu said: “Prakash (Padukone) sir, and we all discussed and thought, it will be a good place, it is near to Paris, it is in between nowhere, so I am much more focussed.”
