England’s assistant coach Paul Collingwood feels the 135-run opening partnership between Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed in the third Test helped them recover after the Lord’s debacle.

“Lord’s was a difficult defeat and really what we needed to do after that was to calm our emotions down and refocus on what we can do,” he said during an interaction on Tuesday.

“I think the performance at Headingley was incredible, considering what had happened at Lord’s. We got off to a great start at Headingley with the way we bowled, and the first wicket partnership was outstanding in terms of the series. The calmness of Hass (Hameed) and Burns to put on over a hundred for the first wicket did calm everyone and helped the batting unit focus on the job at hand,” Collingwood said at an online interaction.

England won by an innings at Leeds to square the series 1-1. He said England are preparing themselves for India to bounce back in the fourth Test, starting at The Oval on Thursday.

“Can they (India) bounce back? I am sure we are certainly preparing ourselves for an Indian bounce back. We know that they are a high-quality team and we have always prepared ourselves that they are going to be 100 per cent ready for the next battle in new set conditions at The Oval,” added the 45-year-old.
