The Karnataka government on Friday gave approval to the Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) for online betting on horseracing. Racing in the country has been halted since March 13 owing to Covid-19.

BTC has been directed to implement the online betting system within the framework of the existing Act and Rules. Bangalore (summer) races are, therefore, expected to start from early August.

“The modalities on online betting are still to be worked out,” said a BTC club member. “But the sport will be held without spectators.”

Race Clubs in Hyderabad, Mysore and Pune are also hopeful for August-September starts, while RCTC is eyeing the post-Puja slot.
