World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty and former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu completed contrasting semi-final victories at the Miami Open, setting up a mouth-watering first career meeting between the two Grand Slam winners in Saturday’s final.
“I haven’t played her (Andreescu) before, haven’t hit with her. It’s a fresh one for both of us,” Barty said after a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Elina Svitolina. The 20-year-old Andreescu beat Greek rival Maria Sakkari 7-6 (9-7), 3-6, 7-6 (7-4).
Sebastian Korda’s run ended with a men’s quarter final loss to No. 4 Andrey Rublev 7-5, 7-6 (9-7). Rublev will play Hubert Hurkacz, who rallied past No. 2 Stefanos Tsitsipas 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
