Mitchell Marsh’s all-round performance and Mitchell Starc’s fantastic final over helped Australia defeat the West Indies by four runs in the inconsequential fourth and penultimate T20I here on Wednesday.
This was the Aussies’ first win of the tour, while the Windies now lead the five-match series 3-1.
After Marsh hit 75 and then struck thrice, Starc denied Andre Russell with five dot balls in the final over that enabled Australia to restrict the Windies to 185/6 after the visitors posted 189/6 on the board.
With 11 to defend in the final over, Starc kept Russell, one of the best finishers of the game, at bay by mixing it with yorker-length and pitched-up deliveries that sealed the contest for Australia.
“Mitchell Starc versus Andre Russell, two of the best in the world at what they do. And that’s why you play. But Mitch was simply world class,” Marsh said later.
“He’s a great leader, a great white-ball bowler.”
