Mohun Bagan defender Daneil Cyrus scored a gem of a goal against Indian Arrows on Thursday, which helped the team get full points, and dedicated it to his Trinidad and Tobago teammate Shahdon Winchester, who died in a car accident on December 19.

Cyrus’s compatriot Marcus Joseph, who plays for Gokulam Kerala FC, wants to do the same in the I-League match against East Bengal at the Kalyani Stadium on Wednesday.

“I have watched the goal which Cyrus scored. It was a fantastic strike. I also want to score one in our next match against East Bengal and would like to dedicate that to Winchester. Me, Cyrus and Winchester played together for our national team. News of Winchester’s demise has shocked all of us,” Joseph told The Telegraph on Monday.

“If I score and my team wins, that will also make Cyrus happy as they will take on East Bengal on January 19,” Joseph said.

Durand Cup champions Gokulam Kerala FC have not been playing too well in the I-League. They are at the eighth place on the league table with seven points from five matches.

About East Bengal, Joseph said: “I have watched almost all of East Bengal’s matches. They are not getting goals at the moment but that happens in football. I am sure, like us, they are also looking for a win,” Joseph said.

Gokulam Kerala captain Joseph sounded confident about taking back three points from the away match. “East Bengal are tough opponents. But we believe in our abilities. If we can play according to potential, we can bag three points.”

Meanwhile, the surgery of East Bengal defender Borja Gomez’s son on Tuesday was successful though the kid was still kept under observation.
